Why is it such a taboo not to talk about mental health within the Asian Society in the 21st century?

What is it that we’re afraid of? Is it the fact that we fear what others’ would say? Or is it how people would portray us as?
“Don’t be ashamed in telling your story, it will inspire others to tell theirs.”
We tend not to talk about it, as some believe that it would bring shame to the family, so they become silent. On the flip side, there are people who do talk to there family members and get the support and help they need. That’s great right? Well it is for some, but majority just “brush it underneath the carpet”, thinking that some magic fairy will come and erase this. One big aspect of why its not talked much about is because its seen as the importance of family status. How would others see you and your family as if they find out that your suffering from this problem, and then start talking bad about the person saying they been possessed by evil or had a very difficult life.
Today, I read this devastating news about a talented young woman, who recently returned back home after completing her fashion designing studies. It appeared that she was battling chronic depression and mental health for quite a while. She was scheduled in for an appointment later on the day, but was found dead in her room, hanging from the ceiling.
Is this what it comes down to? Last resort to take your own life. Has society really failed us?
Admittedly, life in the 21st Century has become more and more difficult not only for us adults but also children. Education has become harder that kids nowadays are taking medications to de-stress themselves. Everyone’s competing against one another, for who can strive to the top. Work life has become a money-making game, where all we are doing is trying to earn more than the person sitting next to us.
We no longer communicate with one another, the impact of technologies and social media networks have substantially grown rapidly over the last 25 years, that even a 7-year-old child has some sort of technology device in their hands.
How are we supposed to air our issues and problems out when everyone’s shut off from each other? No one wants to listen. Or is that they “choose” not to listen.
The bitter truth about hearing an Asian person go through mental health is that you get labelled as “crazy” and being “cursed” upon. Seriously!!
Let’s tackle Mental Health together. Let's put away our phones and devices away and start talking to people around us.
